About me

Hi, I’m Greg — a freshly retired IT Consultant who traded keyboards and conference calls for trailheads and trekking poles. As part of my 2025 New Year’s resolution (and a firm belief that life begins after retirement), I decided it was time to reunite with some old flames: my favorite outdoor adventures.

At the top of that list? Hiking. I grew up in Central Oregon, where the wilderness is basically your backyard and mountain views are just part of the decor.

On January 2nd, armed with enthusiasm and the MeetUp app, I found a local hike starting in less than an hour — and just 10 minutes from my house in Portland. I laced up my boots, showed up… and haven’t stopped hiking with that group since. Seriously. Several times a week, rain or shine.

Before retiring, I flirted with the idea of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, but wildfires, unpredictable weather, and the culinary complexity of mailing my own snacks gave me pause. Then I discovered the Camino de Santiago — a journey with soul (and fewer logistical hassles). In February, I booked my flight from Portland to Lisbon, and ever since, planning and prepping for this epic pilgrimage has been my new full-time gig.
